Roy G. Guerrero

Sunday we played the Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course in East Austin.  This is a very long course with lots of trees requiring both long and accurate throws.  Surprisingly, there are no par 5's on this course although several holes could qualify.  Today's players were:  Steve, Dave, Mark, Keith and Heady.  Temperatures were in the low 90's, lots of sunshine and only a few other groups on the course.  Several of the holes had been mowed but several more had a lot of overgrowth.

I played about my average for the course.  The front nine was respectable, the back nine was ugly.

No birdies were made today.  No discs lost, no discs found.

Austin Ridge Bible Church

Since Steve's friend, Mark, was still in town and I desperately needed a day off of work, we decided to play a round at the Austin Ridge Bible Church on Friday.  We started late in the morning and it was rather warm.  Temperatures were in the upper 90's, at least we had the course to ourselves.

I was playing about average today, I had an alright front nine, it was the back nine that killed my score.  I did make some long putts but also missed a couple of putts that I should have made.  We all hit our share of trees.

Only one birdie made today, Steve on #18.  No discs lost, no discs found.

Rivery Park - Georgetown

Today we ventured far to the north to play the Rivery Park Disc Golf Course in Georgetown.  This was the first time for most of us to play this course. Today's players were:  Steve, Mark, Lif, Keith, Brian and Heady.  Temperatures were in the mid 90's, sunny skies and the wind was not a factor.  Course conditions were mostly dry and we saw only one other group playing.

This is a very interesting, challenging, technical course. It is moderately hilly and heavily wooded with lots of rough.  After playing the first two holes we thought this course was going to be birdie city.  Holes one and two are only 166 feet and 95 feet long, respectively; but they are no way indicative of the course in general.  After that, the holes got a little longer and trickier.  The rough was very overgrown in some places and we spent an inordinate amount of time searching for errant discs.  One of the big cons we had with the course was the decision to put the tee signs in the concrete tee pads.  What were they thinking?

I played about average today, I had a few drives that went awry, but I could recover for the most part.  This was the kind of course were placement was more important than distance.  I would not mind making the trip to play this course once a year, preferably in the spring or fall, when it is not so overgrown.

Only five birdies were made today:  Heady(2), Steve(1), Mark(1) and Brian(1).  No discs lost, two discs found.
