East Metro Park, Manor Texas

I finally got to play this course!  Last Memorial Day I busted up my shoulder and could only walk the course while Keith and Lif played.   A beautiful morning for disc golf!  We started at 8:30 which is about half and hour earlier than usual.  A little chilly to start the day but it warmed up nicely.  No wind when we started but it got a little breezy on the last few holes.  The group today consisted of Keith, Steve, Dave, Bob, Lif and myself.

East Metro is a very challenging course, distance and accuracy are required.  The fairways are fair but the roughs are rougher! Lots of thorny plants, giant cactus formations populate the entire course.  Creeks with very steep banks come into play on many of the holes.  Overall a very beautiful course, I wish it was closer to me.  I definitely want to play this course again before the rough regrows and the summer heat sets in.

No discs lost (hard to believe), no discs found.  As a group we had two birdies (both of which were made by Steve).   Bob had an awesome 70 foot putt on the first hole to save par!

Fairway on the first hole. Beautiful morning.  Not a cloud in the sky.

The light of God’s countenance shines on Dave's drive.  He avoided the tree!

Number 9, Number 9, Number 9.

Basket location on the 10th hole.  Great spot (maybe not for Keith).

Three nice drives, one in the tree!

Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park

We played today at Mary Searight Park in South Austin.  The weather was nice, a little cool and breezy, but the sun warmed us up after a few holes.  The group today consisted of Keith King, Bob Voorhies, Dave McGrath, Mike Lifshen, Steve Combs and myself.

The course was not very crowded this morning.  We were surprised, usually it is packed on a Saturday morning.

Lif's Drive, he ended up with a birdie on this hole.

Keith made a very nice putt to save par on 14.  Dave made several long putts also.  Overall five birdies were made today, including two on one hole (myself an Lif).  No discs lost, no discs found.

MetCenter Disc Golf Course

Today we played a course that none of us has ever played before, MetCenter Disc Golf Course, near the airport.  Overall a pretty nice course, mixture of trees and open spaces, some really long holes and some good short ones.  A creek meanders throughout the course so you have to watch out on some of your throws.  My disc got wet a couple of times.  Not many elevation changes but some of the baskets are place high on a berms next to water.

Today's group consisted of Dave McGrath, Mike Lifshen, Steve Combs, Bob Voorhies and myself.  The sky was overcast, temperatures in the low 60's and a slight wind from the southeast.

This is the sign leading into the first tee.  Fortunately, none of us were violated!

Dave, Bob and Lif finish up on number 10.  A very long hole, over 1000 feet.

 Dave throwing a nice drive.

Me getting ready for my drive.

No birdies to report, no discs lost, no discs found.

We all liked this course a lot and plan to come back again.  It is about the same distance as Circle C from my house.  Once spring gets here the trees will all have leaves and the grass will be green.  Maybe even a little more water in the stream.

Wells Branch Disc Golf Course

Today we played the newly redesigned Wells Branch course.  The players were Steve Combs, Keith King, Mike Lifshen, Dave McGrath, Bob Voorhies and myself.  The weather was very pleasant, temperatures in the upper sixties and sunny, very little wind.  The course is tucked in between an apartment complex and a couple of roads.  A narrow but deep creek runs the entire length of the course.  It is very easy to get your disc wet!

Steve used his disc retrieval contraption and recovered a total of five discs from the creek.

Most of the holes were par three, a couple of par fours.  Several birdies were made today.

Keith's Drive.

They had a tournament playing today so the course was a little crowded.  Bob threw a very nice drive using the flick.  Unfortunately, it went too far and he lost it in the creek.

Overall the course is okay.  It still need some improvements, like more concrete tee pads and trash cans.

Played Several Times This Week

The weather has been so nice I played the Austin Ridge Bible Church three times this week.  I usually only play about nine holes during my lunch.  Today I played seven, but I threw two discs on each hole.  I need to work on my consistency, today my drives were good but Wednesday they were horrible.  I had a good drive today on the second hole.  It is an intimidating tee shot.  You have to avoid the trees and cross a canyon.
