Harvey - No Disc Golf This Sunday

Hurricane Harvey cancelled all Disc Golf games this weekend.  I was able to play almost nine holes at the church on Friday before the rains came.  The storm is going to linger around until Thursday!

Max Starke Park, Sequin

Since it is so hot playing the courses in Austin we decided to take a drive down south and play the Max Starke DGC in Sequin.  We've only played this course once, and that was last November.  We wanted to see what this course looked like with leaves on the trees.  After a hearty breakfast at Macho Taco we all piled into Lif's new car and hit the Texas autobahn.

Today's players were:  Steve, Dave, Lif, Keith, Bob and Heady.  Temperatures were in the 90's, the sun was shining and a slight breeze was blowing.  Course conditions were excellent and only a few other players were on the course.  This course is located about 50 minutes south of Manchaca, in a city park in an old pecan orchard.  The old trees provide ample shade and create some challenging shots.  It was so nice we played it twice.

I had a pretty good game today.  My drives were getting some distance and my putting was pretty good.  I think I missed two putts but I made several that were outside of my comfort zone.   My approach shots were dead on today.   I had the shot of the day during the first round on #3.  I flicked it in from about 120 feet for a birdie.

We had six birdies in the first round:  Keith(2), Heady(2), Bob(1) and Combs(1).   There were nine birdies in the second round:  Combs(4), Keith(2), Bob(2) and Heady(1).  No discs lost and no discs found.  Thanks to Bob for taking all the really good photos!

MetCenter DCG

This morning we played the MetCenter DGC in southeast Austin.  Today's players were:  Steve, Keith, Bob, Lif, Dave, Donald and Heady.  Skies were clear and sunny, temperatures were in the low 90's and breeze kicked up from time to time.  Course conditions were good for the most part.  The detention pond on #2 is usually an empty sandbox, today it had six feet of water in it.  The little creek alongside the course was not very full.  Every square foot of the course and parking lot (including the trees) was covered with crazy ants.  They did not bite but were annoying nevertheless.  We spotted a flock of about eight green parrots on hole #11.

I played about average for this course.  My drives were pretty good but my approach shots let me down today.  I was either way short or way long, or got an unlucky roll.  I did throw a couple of fairway shots into the ground.

Only four birdies were made today:  Dave(2), Steve(1) and Donald(1).  One disc lost by Lif.  Wedged high in tree on #10.  One disc found by Steve, in the creek, under a log, next to his drive.
