It was a warm and wet morning to play disc golf at the Roy G. Guerrero course in east Austin. Today's players were: Steve, Dave, Keith and Heady. A strong thunderstorm passed through early in the morning and dropped more rain on the already saturated soil. There was a lot of standing water on the course, the fairway on #7 was a small lake. Large, hungry mosquitoes were a nuisance. We saw only one other group on the course.
This is a very challenging course, with very long, heavily wooded holes. The actual length of the holes is significantly longer than those posted on the tee pads. The Disc Golf Review web site has the actual, laser sighted distances.
This was Steve's first game in over six weeks, he had to go to Malaysia for his job. The time off did not seem to affect his game very much. He still had the distance on his drives. We all manged to hit a few trees. Once you hit a tree all hope of making par (or bogey) is lost. If you hit more than one tree then the hole can be a real scorecard buster. As I found out.
I missed a few putts today that I normally make. I felt good about them when I threw them but they came up just a little short. Keith and Dave had several putts that either bounced off the chains or skidded off the basket. Keith and Dave did nail some long putts, some of the shorter ones caused them some problems.
No birdies today. No discs lost. No discs found.
