Benbrook Park - Leander

After we finished at Wilco some of us decided to try out Benbrook Park in Leander since it was close by.  After a quick stop at HEB to replenish supplies we were good to go.  The players were Steve, Keith, Bob, Mike and Rob.

Benbrook Park is neighborhood course in Leander that runs along a creek behind a housing development.  There is a paved parking lot and clean restrooms.  The park itself was very clean, ample trash cans and no litter.  The brush was a very thick in some places, we had trouble finding a few discs.  Although the tee pads are dirt they were not too rutted out and are all marked by headstones.  The baskets were Mach 3 instead of the preferred Disc Catcher.

The holes range from the absurd to the sublime.  Hole #5 is the signature hole for the course.  It is a 656 par 4 with the basket placed behind a pond.  Very easy to lose a disc here.  Holes #7 and #8 are ridiculous.  Hole #7 is a 227 foot par 3 with no fairway, just aim for a gap in the trees, if you don't make it then good luck finding your disc.  Hole #8 was a 94 foot par 3 (yes, I said 94 foot).  Most of the other holes were tight tunnel shots or wide open fields.  Hole #17 had a challenging drive over the water.  The creek comes into play on #18 also.  It started to rain and the wind picked up on the last few holes.

A total of nine birdies were made:  Steve(2), Rob(2), Bob(2), Mike(2) and Keith(1).  No discs found, one disc lost (Keith) in the pond on #5.

Our overall opinion was that this was not a bad course, but not one we would go out of our way to play again.  At least I can take if off my list of courses in the Austin area that I have not played.
