Searight - Warm up round

 We are playing a tournament tomorrow on the university of Texas campus tomorrow, so we thought we would play a warm up round at Searight.  Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Chris, Donald and Heady

 Only three birdies were made today:  Chris(2) and Steve(1).  No discs lost and no discs found.

Searight Park - South Austin

 I have not played Searight in years, it is usually very crowded and this morning was no exception.  Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Keith and Heady.   It was a chilly start with temperatures in the 30's.  I wore jeans for the first time since last winter.  The sun was shining and there was no wind, so it didn't really feel that cold.  The dry air allowed the temperatures rise quickly.   Course conditions were good, still too many trees.  The ground was very dry and hard, allowing for some good skips.

I played about average, some good drives and some bad drive.  A lack of concentration cost me a couple of strokes and I had a couple of disaster holes.  My flick was working today.  I had a very good drive on #7.   Flicked it down the middle, between the trees on either side of the fairway and the disc skipped up just short of the basket.  My only birdie of the day.

Searight

It's been a while since we've played Mary Moore Searight in South Austin.  We had another early 8:00AM start to beat the heat and the crowds.  Today's players were:  Steve, Dave, Lif, Keith, Brian, Heady and BOB!  It was good to see Bob again!

This is a relatively easy technical course and we were surprised that they changed things up by reversing the course.  Otherwise, course conditions were good.  It was kind of strange playing it backwards.  This was the least crowded I've ever seen this course.  Only a couple of other small groups playing this morning.

I played alright today, I have a few moments of a lack of concentration but overall I was satisfied with my play.  Steve tore up the course today, crushing the competition.  Bob had the shot of the day on hole #11 (or 8) with a long birdie.  A blind, 130 foot shot that hit the chains with authority! I had an ace run on the next hole.  I thought my drive was going to fly high past the basket, but at the last moment the disc suddenly dropped 10 feet and landed next to the basket.

A total of 13 birdies were made today:  Steve(5), Keith(4), Lif(1), Bob(1), Brian(1) and Heady(1).  No discs lost, one disc found by Brian.

Searight Park - Thanksgiving Eve

Dave and I had the day off today so we decided to play Mary Moore Searight Park in South Austin.  We don't often play this course because it is usually very crowded with large groups of rude players.  Also, this course is not particularly challenging and the holes are somewhat repetitive.  Today we just about had the course to ourselves.  The temperatures were in the low 70's, mostly cloudy skies and it was a little breezy at times.  The weather is supposed to suck the rest of the holiday weekend so it was good to get a game in while we could.

We both played about average today.  I had some problems with trees on a couple of holes and Dave had a putting adventure on #7.  Dave had a very nice drive on the downhill #15 for a pretty easy birdie.  My setup shots were pretty close and I don't remember missing any high percentage putts today.

A total of four birdies were made today:  Dave(3) and Heady(1).  No discs lost and no discs found. 

I stayed around and played another nine holes to get some practice in.  I tweaked my drive a little and suddenly I was getting a lot more distance.  Almost Combsian distances.  Hope I don't forget what I did.

Mary Moore Searight - I did not play

The group of Adam, David, Steve, Blob, Keith, Big Dave and John played Mary Moore Searight last weekend.  I was in San Diego and Lif was in Jamaica.  Looks like 11 birdies were made:  Adam(3), David(3), Steve(3), Keith(1) and Big Dave (1).

Mary Moore Searight Park - Two Rounds

Today a small group of us played the very crowded Mary Moore Searight Park, the group was:  Steve, Bob and me.  This course is always crowded and today was no exception.  I got there at 9:05 and there were about 30 guys, and their dogs, standing around the first tee box.  We decided to start on hole three to get around the crowd.  This turned out to be a wise decision (except I made a Frosty).  We played the round so quickly that we decided to play another.

The last time we played here was back in December when it was cold and muddy.  Today the weather was warm, mostly cloudy, mostly calm and very humid.  A brief, but intense, rain shower hit us on hole fifteen.  Just enough to soak our clothes and make the ground a little muddy.  

Other than the crowds, I really like this course.  It has mostly short to moderate length holes.  Mostly tight fairway shots and some elevation changes.  If you make one bad throw you can still recover to make par.

None of us played our best but we played good enough. Only four birdies were made for both rounds:  Rob(2), Steve(1) and Bob(1).  No discs lost, no discs found.  Bob did find something that was "very interesting".
