Lincoln Ridge Park

I was in Kentucky last week for business, five minutes after checking in to my hotel, my co-worker, Erick took me out to the Lincoln Ridge Disc Golf Course.  This really is a very beautiful and challenging course.  I have played it twice before and have enjoyed it each time.  I love that this course is a mixture of open rolling hills and tight tree lined shots.  Some holes have a deep canyon running along side the fairway.  Course conditions were excellent.  The fairways were mowed and there was no trash on the course.  We got to the course at about 6:30 and finished around 9:00.  The sun sets late in Kentucky.

Lincoln Ridge Park - Kentucky

I've been in Kentucky this week and tonight I played with my coworker, Erick, at the Lincoln Ridge Park Disc Golf Course in Independence Kentucky.  This is a beautiful but challenging 24 hole course with just about everything, some wide open holes and some very tight technical holes.  Lots of elevation changes, you have to be careful on some downhill shots or your disc can go 100 feet past the basket.  There are some water hazards but they were pretty easy to avoid.  The course was very clean and well maintained, the grass was freshly mowed. Very easy to find the next hole, good signage, plenty of trash cans and benches on most holes.

The skies were slightly overcast and temperatures were in the upper 70's.  We started play early in the evening and it was just about dark when we finished the 24th hole.  An almost full moon helped us out on the last hole.  Throwing white discs also helped.  I was surprised that the course had so many players that late in the day.  A different crowd than you see in Austin.  Most of the players were young, probably still in high school.  I did not see anyone drinking beer on the course.

We did not keep score but I had at least on birdie, Erick had at least two birdies including one from a very long putt on #22.  Erick has really improved since his first game last year.  No discs lost, no discs found.  The only negative thing about the course was the chainstar baskets.  The were hard to see because they lacked the yellow rim that DISCatcher baskets have.  I would love to play this course several more times!

Lincoln Ridge Park in Independence Kentucky

I've been in Northern Kentucky this week for my company's annual conference.  Today I played the course at Lincoln Ridge Park in Independence Kentucky.  I've read good things about it on the Disc Golf Review http://www.dgcoursereview.com/course.php?id=730 and was excited to play it.  A thunderstorm came almost dashed my chances, but it blew through around 7:00 and we still had enough daylight to play 16 holes of the 24 holes.  I played with my coworker, Erick, from our Kentucky office.  This was his first time to play and he did not do too bad.  It took him a few holes, but he caught on pretty quick.  I brought three discs that I normally don't use and let Erick use a light Leopard disc.  I used my old red Wraith.

The course starts out very unassuming, a nice wide open, downhill shot on the first tee.  I nailed a beautiful drive and had a shot at an eagle but settled for a birdie.  I made birdie on the first three holes and thought that maybe this course was too easy.  Then we got into the thick woods.  The holes got much more challenging with tight fairways, rugged terrain and steep elevation changes.  We spent a fair amount of time looking for our discs in the woods.

I really liked this course, I wish I could have played it in the morning and maybe a different time of year when the brush was not so thick.  The rain had the course slick and muddy and we were fortunate to not to slip.  The course was laid out very well, nice signage, benches on every tee and the tee boxes were very nice concrete pads.  A very clean course, I did not see very much trash at all.  The only drawback was that the baskets were hard to see on some holes, they lacked the numbered, yellow rims that I am used to.  Overall an excellent course.  I would love to play it again all the way through.
