Moody's Disc Golf Ranch - Bastrop County

We took a little road trip out east, to Bastrop County to play Moody's Disc Golf Ranch.  We met up at Macho Taco in Manchaca at 9:15 for breakfast tacos then hit the road.  Today's players were:  Steve, Mike, Bob, Dave, Lif and Heady.  Mike could only play the first course, family obligations.  The weather was perfect!  Not a cloud in the sky, temperatures in the low 80's and only a slight breeze.  Course conditions were perfect and there were several other groups that made the trek from Austin to play.

This course is owned by Dave Moody, who is an old friend of Lif's from college.  Dave told us the basics about the course and got us started with a map.  This is one of the prettiest courses (and cleanest) we have ever played.  It is on 110 acres of mowed rolling hills, dotted with huge pine trees along with oak and cedar.  There are three ponds on the course that come into play.  There is not a lot of rough on the course be we still managed to hit most of the trees.  There are not tee pads, just flags indicating where to tee off from.  The soil is very sandy, so it was not muddy at all.  You did have to watch out for some cow patties.

The only cons about the course were lack of signage, we had trouble at times determining where the basket was.  Also, we had trouble finding where the next hole was.  The map really helped.  Also, there were grass burrs everywhere.

We all had a good time playing this course.  I would complain about my putting but it seemed that everyone missed their fair share of putts.  I like the open feel to the course, you can really get some good drives without worrying too much about hitting trees or ending up in deep rough.

Lots of birdies made today, too many to list.  No discs lost and no discs found!
