Circle C - Cold, wet day

Dave and I braved the elements and played a round at Circle C this morning.  Temperatures were in the low 40's, skies were overcast and drizzling, at least the wind wasn't blowing.  We didn't bother keeping score because we knew the scores would not be worth keeping.  Between the numb hands, slick tee pads and layers upon layers of clothing we were not expecting to have a low scoring round   Other than one other guy playing we had the course to ourselves.

No birdies today and fewer pars than normal.   Dave almost had a great shot on #18, from about 120 feet out, over the water, he hit the pole under the basket.

Dave driving on #6.  At least the wasps weren't out today.

Dave putting on #12.  Creek is still full.

Searight Park - Thanksgiving Eve

Dave and I had the day off today so we decided to play Mary Moore Searight Park in South Austin.  We don't often play this course because it is usually very crowded with large groups of rude players.  Also, this course is not particularly challenging and the holes are somewhat repetitive.  Today we just about had the course to ourselves.  The temperatures were in the low 70's, mostly cloudy skies and it was a little breezy at times.  The weather is supposed to suck the rest of the holiday weekend so it was good to get a game in while we could.

We both played about average today.  I had some problems with trees on a couple of holes and Dave had a putting adventure on #7.  Dave had a very nice drive on the downhill #15 for a pretty easy birdie.  My setup shots were pretty close and I don't remember missing any high percentage putts today.

A total of four birdies were made today:  Dave(3) and Heady(1).  No discs lost and no discs found.

I stayed around and played another nine holes to get some practice in.  I tweaked my drive a little and suddenly I was getting a lot more distance.  Almost Combsian distances.  Hope I don't forget what I did.

East Metro Park (Manor) - Chilly Start

It was a chilly start today at the East Metro Park course in Manor.  Temperatures were about 40 degrees, fortunately the sun was shining and the wind was not very strong.  Today's players were:  Steve, Keith, Dave, Lif and Heady.  We had the course to ourselves, we saw a solo player when we started and nobody after that.

I got off to a slow start and hit my share of trees today.  My approach shots kept me in the game.  It was so cold this morning we had to break out the gloves.  Steve and Keith wore shorts, the rest of us decided on the long pants.  Wearing jeans is not a bad idea when playing this course.  Just about everything in the rough is covered with thorns.

A total of six birdies were made today:  Steve(5) and Dave(1).  Steve had a very good round, he made a par or birdie on every hole except for two holes.  He ended up at even par for the day.

No discs lost, one disc found by Steve on #17 in a cactus patch.

Roy G. Guerrero

Four of us turned out today to play the Roy G. Guerrero Disc Golf Course in East Austin.  Today's players were:  Steve, Keith, Dave and Heady.  Skies were overcast, temperatures were in the 60's and there was no wind to speak of.  Quite a few other groups were playing today but I wouldn't call it crowded.

This is a tough course requiring long and accurate throws.  Many of the holes are very long, longer than what is posted, and they all have trees.  I felt that I played alright today but my score does not really reflect that.  I snapped off a couple of good drives and avoided the trees for the most part.  I think I only missed one putt I felt that I should have made.  Both Dave and I had very long putts go in for par.  They were both from about 90 feet out.  Mine was on #2 and Dave's was on #10.

No birdies today, although Steve had a couple of chances.  No discs lost and no discs found.

Austin Ridge Bible Church

We had a small group for the Austin Ridge Bible Church on Sunday.  The players were:  Steve, Dave and Heady.  It was a little cool when we started, temperatures in the 50's.  Long sleeve weather.  Skies were mostly sunny and a fair north wind.  Course condition were a little slick in places but not as bad as I thought it would be.  The nice weather brought out the players and we encountered several other groups on the course.

We all got off to a slow start.  Blame it on the cool weather.  Steve picked it up on the back nine, making par on the very difficult #10 and almost made birdie on #11.

A total of three birdies were made:  Heady(2) and Steve(1).  One disc found by Steve on #8.  I was standing right next to it and did not see it.  Two discs lost, Steve's drive on #12 went into the thicket, my drive on #18 faded into the pond.
