Year in Review

It has been a good year for disc golf.  I believe my game has improved since last year, my drives have gotten longer, I have developed a flick throw and my putting is more consistent.  I have played some new courses in Austin, San Antonio and even Kentucky.  But most of all I enjoy spending time with my old friends and meeting their friends.  I look forward to getting outside on Sunday mornings regardless of the weather, it is often the highlight of my week.  Even if I have a bad day throwing my disc it is still a good day spent with friends.

I often look back at my blog entries with fond memories of the rounds I have played.  Thanks to Bob, we have the scorecards available to track our progress.  Thanks to Steve for joining us and making us all better players.  Here's to looking forward to a new year filled with the promise of fun times with friends.  Who knows, maybe I will throw my first ace this year!

Roy G. Guerrero

Today we took on Roy G. Guerrero and Roy won.  No excuses, the weather was nice, temperatures in the 50's, no wind and mostly sunny.  Most of the underbrush has died off with the recent freezes and the ground was dry.  I started off throwing well, with a par on the first hole.  After that things went downhill and I only had two more pars on the round.  Even though the underbrush was gone, the trees were still standing and we seemed to find a lot of them.  The holes are so long on this course that one bad throw and you can forget about making par or even a bogey.

Today's group consisted of Steve, Keith, Dave, Bob, MikeB and myself.  Only one birdie was made today, Steve on number 8 after a great drive.  His disc landed right next to the basket.  Other than Steve, the rest of us combined only made 14 pars.  No discs lost, no discs found.

Circle C - Christmas Eve

We played an impromptu game today at Circle C.  Steve, Dave, Keith and Burko had the day off of work, I filled out a half-day vacation request and met them at 11:00.  The weather was sunny, but a little chilly.  About 50 degrees when we started with a slight breeze from the southeast.  I should have worn long sleeves but I was all right by the back nine.  I'm surprised that the creek still had water flowing.  We had to take detours around it twice.

Keith and I played below average today.  Keith was snake bit on the front nine, if there was a branch in the way his disc managed to find it.  I had a couple of really bad holes on the front nine and lost my drive on the last five holes.  I kept throwing it way too low.  Mike Burko was just the opposite, he really picked it up on the back nine and had some really impressive throws.  Dave was consistent from the front nine to the back nine, seven over on each.  Steve had three birdies, no one else had one.  No discs lost, no discs found.

Mary Moore Searight - Muddy Day

The second day of winter we played Mary Moore Searight in South Austin.  We don't play this course very often because it is so crowded.  We did not have that problem today.  Cold temperatures, breezy, cloudy day and lots of mud kept the crowds away.  It started out in the low 40's, but the sun did come out on the back nine and it warmed up to the low 50's.  The mud was very thick in some places and it felt like we were walking with weights on our shoes.  We did run into a few other small groups of hardcore disc golfers on the back nine.

Today group consisted of Dave, Steve, Bob, MikeB, Heady, Keith and his daughter, Kalyn. She joined us to keep us company. She is in town from Florida for the holidays.  A total of five birdies were made today:  Keith (3), Rob(1) and Steve(1).  Steve had a shot on at least four more birdies but just missed them.  Overall with the bulky clothes and the numb fingers we did all right today, and we had fun!

Steve found a disk on the third fairway, just sitting in a tree waiting for him.  He has a nose for them.  No one lost any discs.
