Moody's Disc Golf Ranch - Red Rock Texas - Disc Golf Heaven

We met up at 8:00 at Macho Taco's in Manchaca for delicious breakfast tacos.  Then we dropped off our cars at Steve's house and headed out to Moody's Disc Golf Ranch.  It's like you died and went to disc golf heaven.  The courses are laid out on several cow pastures, with rolling hills and a fair amount of trees to make it challenging.  Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Keith and Heady.  Temperatures were in the upper 50's when we started and warmed up to near 70 when we finished.  Skies were cloudy when we started and were starting to clear by the time we finished.  Only a slight breeze was blowing.  Course conditions were good, some stickers and cow patties to watch out for.  We were the only players on the course.

This course is owned by Dave Moody, who is an old friend of Lif's from college.  Dave told us the basics about the course and got us started with a map.

The courses are laid out into four quadrants with 10 holes in each quadrant.  We played 30 of the holes in a little over four hours.  This is a course where you can let it fly.  There are quite a few trees on some holes but the rough is not bad at all.  We all had a pretty good game with exceptional putting all around.

Only nine birdies were made all day:  Keith(4), Steve(4) and Rob(1).  No discs found but I lost my White Roadrunner with a bad throw over the stock tank.

Partial Scorecard

East Metro - Manor

Since we've had a couple if light freezes in the past couple of weeks, we thought we would see how East Metro Park in Manor looked.  The freezes killed off enough of the rough to make the course more enjoyable.  Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Bob, Dave, Keith and Heady.  It was good to see Dave again, even though he had to bail out after 11 holes.  Course condition were good, the rough was still rough but we did not spend too much time looking for discs.  It helps to remember what disc you threw and to check the fairway first Dave! 

I played about my average for this course.  I got off to a bad and never really got it going.  Lif had a great drive on #16, right down the middle and in front of the basket for a tap in birdie.

Only five birdies were made today:  Lif(2), Steve(1), Bob(1) and Keith(1).  No discs lost and no discs found.

Circle C - Standard Time Begins

A beautiful day for a round of disc golf at Circle C.  It was made even better by eating the Macho Tacos that Steve brought.  Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Bob and Heady.  Temperatures were in the 50's when we started but warmed up to the upper 60's.  Not a cloud in the sky but there was a pesky breeze blowing.  Not as many players on the course as you think there would be on such a fine day. 

I had about an average round for me today.  My drives weren't that great but my approach shots were pretty good, probably from all that practice yesterday at Wells Branch.  I missed several putts including some birdie chances.  I had a legitimate shot at par on #18, I threw four near perfect throws but then blew a 12 foot putt.  Steve had some putting problems also, missing at least three birdies.  Bob had a bad day, but he was exhausted from moving into a new house this weekend.  Bob picked it up some on the back nine.

Only four birdies made today:  Lif (2), Bob(1) and Steve(1).  No discs lost but Bob found a disc on the #18 fairway.

Wells Branch - Saturday Round

Keith could not play on Sunday so we decided to play a round at Wells Branch on Saturday. Today's players were:  Steve, Lif, Keith and Heady.  It's been a while since we've played this course.  It is a neighborhood course, all holes are par 3.  Some of the holes have actually been shortened since the last time we've played.   Still it is a fun and scenic course.

We all ended up at -2 under par on the first round!
