MetCenter

We had an early 8:00am start Sunday in order to beat the heat and the crowds at the MetCenter.  City courses are still closed due to the COVID-19, so players are congregating on the courses that remain open.  That defeats the purpose of having people spread out, but then again, the Austin mayor and city council never really thinks anything through.

We had a large group today:  Steve, Big Dave, Bob, Lif, Keith, Chris, Dave Darden and Heady. It was a warm (ok, hot) day for disc golf.  Temperatures were in 80's when we started and in the mid 90's when we finished.  Course conditions were the driest I've seen them.  There were many other smaller groups on the course.  We let several of them play through.

I ended up about average today, I played a practice round in Marble Falls on Saturday to work out some flaws in my drive.  I did see some improvements today, with both distance and accuracy.   Most of my bogies were due to poor approach shots and missed putts.  Steve had a good round, ending up at even par...even Steven.

Everyone had a birdie today!  A total of 15 birdies were made today:  Steve(2), Keith(2), DD(2), Heady(2), Lif(2), Chris(2) and Bob(1).     No discs lost but three discs found in the pond on #15 while looking for Keith's drive.

I love to watch DD drives!

Williamson County - Leander

We ventured up north for an early 8:00 start at the Williamson County DGG in Leander.  Today's players were:  Steve, Bob, Lif, Keith, Chris and Heady.   A cool start for August with temperatures in the lower 70's, sunny skies and no wind.  Course conditions were good and still a little wet from the storms yesterday morning.

Except for Steve, the group did not have an outstanding day.  My drives were all over the place, my approach shots rolled away from the basket and I missed four putts.  Keith had some disaster holes and some uncharacteristically bad drives and putts.  He has been out sick for a couple of weeks.  Bob had some really fine throws today and made par on the very long and difficult hole 9.   Lif and Steve both made par on #9 also.  Chris had to cut out early on #17 to attend his birthday party.

Only five birdies were made:  Steve(2), Heady(1), Chris(1) and Keith(1).  No discs lost and one disc found by Chris.

MetCenter - Steve Birthday Round

Steve and I played a quick round at the MetCenter this morning to celebrate his 60th birthday.   We had larger plans but a  COVID scare changed the plans.  It was hot day with temperatures in the middle 90's when we finished.  Despite the heat, there were a lot of other players on the course.  We had to wait a few times.  The course is the driest I've ever seen it, with several dead hackberry trees on the ground.

I wound with a pretty good score for this course. I was inconsistent all day, throwing too high or too low or grip locking.  Still I managed to recover on most holes and I made all the putts I should have made.  Even a few that I normally miss.   Steve made a 50 footer to save par on #13.

Steve was a birdie machine with five birdies and I had two.  No discs lost and no discs found.

Old Settlers' Park - Round Rock

We drove up north Sunday to play the challenging Old Settlers' Park in Round Rock, Texas.  The players were:  Steve, Keith, Bob, Lif, Dave, Chris and Heady.  It was warm and breezy when we started and hot and humid when we finished.  Course conditions were very dry and there a fair number of other players on the course.

The Force was not strong with me today.  I started of playing well, then the wheels came off and I could never really recover.  I had some decent drives but too many of my fairway throws found trees.  I only missed one putt and that was for birdie.  Dave had some very nice drives today.  Both Keith and Chris made some long distance putts.

Only four birdies were made today:  Steve(2), Keith(1), and Chris(1).  No discs lost and one disc found by Steve.
