Circle C Gloomy Day

We played a round today at Circle C.  The weather was kind of gloomy, 60 degrees and a little drizzly.  Overall not bad for late January.  The group consisted of Steve Combs, Mike Lifshen and myself.  No birdies to report but Lif and Steve had a couple of close chances.

Below is my first attempt at adding video to this blog.  Steve's drive on the 14th hole.

Steve concentrating on his drive.  Just look at the determination in his face!

Steve trying some 'Body English' on the 18th hole.  I made a bogey on this hole which is a minor victory for me.

Nice Day for Disc Golf!

I was sick last weekend, so I missed playing the Roy G. course with the guys.  Today was beautiful January day in Austin, Texas.  The temperature was 78 degrees an sunny, I just had to get out at lunch and play a few holes.  I played yesterday and today at the church course.

I did not do too well yesterday but today I made par on the first seven holes (full disclosure, I did throw a mulligan on my drive a couple of times).  Barely missed getting two birdies, hit the chains both times and bounced out.  On the third hole my birdie shot was from about 50 feet.  I threw my forehand flick and it brushed the chains.  I made a seventy foot shot on that hole yesterday using the forehand flick.  On the sixth hole I had a much better chance at a birdie, only about twenty feet.  It just bounced off the chains.  Looking forward to playing Circle C on Saturday.

Cold day at the Austin Ridge Bible Church

A cold, windy day did not stop the diehard disc golfers from playing.  Temperatures where in the upper 30's when we started with a north wind gusting up to 20mph.  At least the sun came out.

Lif got his disc wet, at least he did not fall in.  Dave stands by, ready to help if needed.

Overall, we played pretty well considering the conditions.  Wearing so many clothes limited flexibility and the wind took some of the throws on an adventure.

Beautiful Day Today!

The weather today was beautiful for early January,  sunny and 70 degrees.  I just had to go to the church course for a quick nine holes at lunch.  I had some good throws today.  I experimented with a forehand flick at distances between 30 and 50 feet from the basket.  I was amazed at the accuracy I was having.  I was hitting the chains consistently.  On the fourth hole, one a whim, I threw the flick from 50 feet.  It hit the chains and bounced out.

On the fifth hole, I strolled around the basket about twenty five feet away and threw three discs into the basket.  One after another, like I was some kind of Zen master....

Austin Bible Ridge Church Course

Steve and I played a round Sunday, January 6th, at the church course.  Weather was sunny and a little cool, slight breeze blowing in from the north.  Steve had a great drive on the second hole.  I had a good drive (for me anyway) on the hole.  I cleared the canyon easily but Steve's disc was a least a hundred feet further than mine.  Steve has only been playing for a little more than two months and he is hooked on the game.  We are all amazed when he uncorks a 400+ foot drive and of course the Ace the day before got everyone excited.

I avoided throwing a mulligan on the 18th hole.  Learned my lesson, last time I lost my Valkyrie in the pond.

Circle C - Steve has an Ace!

Played a round yesterday, January 5th, at Circle C.  The group was Mike Lifshen, Keith King, Dave McGrath, Parker Mcintosh, Steve Combs and myself.  Weather was a little chilly and cloudy, not much wind.

Steve Combs had the shot of the day, a hole in one on the 4th hole.  A beautiful shot that curved around the trees and right into the chains.  There was much rejoicing!

First Entry

I am just an average disc golf player.  I can't throw the disc 500 feet, the best I throw is about 300 feet if everything goes right.  I have been playing for about four years.  The last two years I have been playing on a more consistent basis.  I play with a group of friends about once a week at one of the courses in the Austin area.  I work from home, so I look forward to time spent outside and interacting with friends.  I thought it would be interesting to keep a journal of our games.

There is a course about four minutes from my house at the Austin Ridge Bible Church.  Close enough that I can play a few holes at lunch.  This course is one of the most challenging courses in the Austin area, requiring precise technical shots.  The terrain is very rugged and there are water hazards.  Since this course opened a couple of years ago my interest in disc golf has increased.
